Moto gets though with
21 March 2006
The move comes after complaints about cars towing caravans parking in coach bays, coaches parking in HGV spots and vice versa, as well as commercial vehicles parking on access roads.
“We are well aware of the problems caused by inappropriate and careless parking, including the heath and safety implications,” said Brian Larkin, Moto’s operations director. “We have tried various ways of trying to persuade drivers only to park in their designated areas but there is still a hardcore who insist on leaving their vehicles where it is most convenient to them. That’s why we have introduced a trial of more robust methods which, if they prove successful, will be rolled out across the entire Moto estate.”
Drivers who park in areas where they shouldn’t at Moto’s Cherwell Valley (M40), Thurrock (M25), Donington Park (M1) and Lancaster (M6) sites face having their vehicles clamped. The procedure will be overseen by CP Plus, the specialist parking company that monitors parking at all Moto service areas.
Mr Larkin added: “This is not a step we have taken lightly but parking inappropriately can constitute a major hazard to the safe movement of other vehicles and pedestrians around a service area.”
